Chances are you have never heard of tortocollis. As the link will explain, torticollis, or wryneck, is a condition that some babies are born with. It causes the baby’s neck to be turned towards a certain angle, and it’s difficult for them to have full range of motion. I considered myself pretty savvy when it came to baby issues, but I had never heard of the condition, and what’s worse, I didn’t even know that Taj had it.
I took Taj to a ladies Suq one weekend, and a sister I know, who is a chiropractor held Taj for me for a second, when I went to get him back she said, “Do you know that he has torticollis?” SubhanAllah I had no clue, and his pediatrician at the time had never mentioned it either. She explained the condition, and suddenly I realized that his head WAS often turned to one direction. I also looked back at old pics, and realized that he always had his head at a tilt. I felt ashamed for never realizing that it was a problem. I was also angry that his pedi had never noticed.
I have sinced changed pediatricians and his condition is improving beautifully, alhumdullilah.

Asalaamu alaikum,
Hey Old Skool! Awww, he’s so cute and he’s such a flirt! Alhamdulillah that his condition was caught in time. It’s so scary because there’s so many things out there that you don’t know about even if you read up on child health care. Please don’t feel guilty. I know Mommies tend to always feel guilty but Allah was looking out, wasn’t He?
Assalamualaikum,
Dear oh dear, Alhamdulillah that he is doing fine now. He’s such a beautiful little angel.
W’salam,
Hajar
i just want to thank you so much for posting this. my name is nicole and i’m 22. i just had my husband and i’s second daughter six months ago. she has been through so much in such a short time. when she was 3 months she was diagnosed with colic, but my mom also noticed the tilt in her neck. my pedi told me that there was nothing wrong, just colic, and that it was just a prefrence that her head did that. a month later i took her back for a check up and she seen a different pedi that time and he diagnosed her torticollis, but said that it would go away on its own, if not by 9 months we would start physical therapy. well, i took suggestions from family members and friends and took her to a chirprator that had worked on my brother as an infant, and i found out that the best thing for her would have going to the chiropractor since i found out about it because she also has muscle spasms. she used to cry for 14 hours straight a day, and i feel the same way when you say you feel guilty because if i would have taken her sooner i would have realized that that was why she was crying the entire time. i remember being so sad that she would cry and felt my heart break everyday when she would start. more parents need to know about this. thank you so much!
